Three Of The Most Popular Facebook Scams

Hey you! I just saw this video of you on Facebook and it's really embarrassing. Click here.

If you have fallen for that post on your Facebook wall and actually clicked the link, chances are you have been victimized by an online scam artist.

The Embarrassing Video

The motive of this scam is obviously to capitalize on a person's vanity. Imagine being told that you were exposed in an embarrassing video on the internet!

Just remember that if you've never been involved in any embarrassing videos, then it's somebody's malicious intent to just get you to click on a link that will lead to you compromising your computer.

The Unlike Button

Facebook never introduced an "Unlike" button. And until they make an official announcement, the Unlike button does not exist.

For someone to tell you that you can now install or click on a button that does not exist, that should raise some alarm bells. Another attempt to compromise our computer.

See Who Has Been Viewing Your Profile

This scam appeals more to a person's natural curiosity and perhaps even to that paranoid streak in people. There is someone stalking me!

So if you have always wondered who has been looking at your profile, this is your chance to find out! But unfortunately, this is just another scam.

There are privacy settings in place that both prevent your profile from being viewed by those who you only choose to show and also from others to see beyond what they are only allowed to. Also, it would be totally irresponsible of Facebook to promote such a feature that would support stalking.

When In Doubt...

Don't click it!

It's that simple. Many of these scams are applications created by outsiders and may not be fully sanctioned by Facebook. In fact there are more than a couple dozen more scams that we have not touched on here.

Do not let your emotions get the best of you. Do not be "click-happy" too. One simple click could lead to very serious consequences as far as your identity's safety goes.
